What is Competition?
DECA competition consists of 3 levels: Regions, State, and ICDC. At competition, members can compete in either roleplay or prepared events, and individual or team events. There are also principle events for first time competitors. Most events have an exam based on the career cluster. These exams are worth 1/3 of your overall score. Members can find a full list of events, along with descriptions, sample exams, and sample guidelines on deca.org/compete.
ROLEPLAY
In roleplay events, you are given a situation and must come up with a solution to the presented problem. Your goal is to hit all of the performance indicators, while providing creative, innovative solutions.
- Individuals get 10 minutes to prepare & 10 minutes to present.
- Teams (2 people) get 30 minutes to prepare & 15 minutes to present
PREPARED
DECA’s prepared events require a written project and a prepared presentation, and some require participants to take a career cluster exam. They can be competed either individually, or in a team. Many prepared events can be started as early as the summer, or beginning of the school year.
LEVELS
If you place at at competition, you qualify to compete at the next level. You are not required to compete at the next level, but it is an incredible opportunity. Regions is one day, State is 3 days, and Internationals is from 4-7 days. Regions is at a local location (Rockdale Career Academy), State is at a hotel downtown (usually the Hyatt Regency), and Internationals is in a different city every year. This year the 2026 location is in Atlanta, GA. In 2027 it will be in Anaheim, California, 2028 will be in Orlando, Florida, and 2029 will be in San Francisco, California.

Congratulations to all of our members that attended ICDC! We took the MOST students ever, 24, to Orlando, Florida. We explored the city, went to the new Epic Universal park, explored Universal city walk and the parks, and bonded as a chapter. The conference hosted the most attendees in history, about 26,000 competitors from around the world. Our students got chances to network, compete, and learn from the other members.
